At Fair Rent, we believe your financial agreements and roommate arrangements are your private business. We engineered our rent splitting calculator from the ground up to operate with zero server-side data retention. Be fair.
1. 100% Client-Side Calculations
All calculations—including bedroom square footage proportions, amenity points, bathroom weighting, utility bills, move-in proration, and security deposit deductions—occur exclusively in your web browser using client-side JavaScript.
2. How Shareable Plan Links Work
When you choose to export or share a plan, the application encodes your current inputs into the URL hash (e.g. https://fairrent.site/#plan=...).
- No Database Storage: The plan data is stored entirely inside the link you copy. It is never uploaded to, saved in, or logged by a database on our servers.
- Safe Sanitization: Links contain only mathematical parameters, bedroom names, and amenity flags. No personal identifiers or sensitive financial credentials are included.
3. Data We Do Not Collect
No Personal Info
We do not collect names, phone numbers, email addresses, or SSNs.
No Bank or Payment Data
We do not process rent payments, escrow funds, or collect banking credentials.
No Tracking Cookies
We do not use intrusive cross-site ad trackers or sell data to third-party data brokers.
4. Analytics & Hosting Logs
Like standard web infrastructure, basic server logs (such as IP address, browser user-agent, and requested asset paths) may be processed temporarily by our hosting provider strictly for DDoS mitigation, caching performance, and uptime monitoring.
